Issue Position: Government Overregulation

Issue Position

Tennesseans want clean air, clean water, safe infrastructure and safe workplaces. But needless oversight and regulation cost taxpayers and businesses billions of dollars per year. Because government bureaucracy has a viral life of its own that grows larger with time, regulatory agencies tend to justify their existence coming up with more and more costly regulations increasing the tax burden on Tennesseans. In addition, needless regulations sap Tennessee business owners of capital otherwise used to create jobs or build infrastructure to increase business and profits, from which many taxes come. Smaller government results in a more vigorous economy. I am pleased to be a co-sponsor for HB0500 by Representative Casada that establishes and Office of the Repealer. This position will have sole responsibility of making recommendations to the legislature of areas of government waste, duplication, and out-of-date regulations that should be removed from the law books. IN ADDITION, the Office of the Repealer will take recommendations directly from the public, basing its decisions on inputs received from business-owners, educators, activists and concerned citizens across the state. The position is not a new permanent position (more government) it will end after four years. I will update you as soon as I know the process for submitting recommendations.
